"Skarbek" Cooperative Department Store - a department store in downtown Katowice, located at the Market Square, at the intersection of 3 Maja Street and Adama Mickiewicza Street.
The building was erected between 1972-1974, designed by the architect Jurand Jarecki, in the western part of the Market Square. It stood on the site of the former tenement house with Borinski's colonial store. Until 1864 an inn existed here. The facade was covered with pressed aluminum sheet, which was imported from France. The building was put into use in 1975, since the beginning its owner has been PSS Społem Katowice. Originally, its cubature was over 62,000 m³.
In 2005-2007, the building was reconstructed - the facade was renovated and two external elevators with illuminated lights were installed. The "Delikatesy Skarbek" store was located in the arcades. In 2018, the dismantling of aluminum elements covering the facade of the building began The renovation was completed in 2019.
