Mlawa - cemetery of soldiers of the German army from World War I and World War II - cemetery from World War I and World War II located in Działdowo county, Iłowo-Osada municipality. The cemetery is located northwest from Mlawa, among the forest, about 300 meters from road 544 Mlawa - Dzialdowo. The cemetery is surrounded by a fence. It is mostly wooded. The cemetery was established during World War I and an unspecified number of soldiers of German Empire were buried there.
During the German invasion of Poland in 1939, a 4-day battle, known as the Battle of Mława, took place near Mława. As a result of the fighting around 1200 Polish and 1800 German soldiers died. German soldiers were buried in three mass cemeteries. One of them was located in the immediate vicinity of the World War I cemetery. Between 1940-1944 the cemetery was built and maintained by Polish inmates of Nazi camps in Iłowo and Mławka. Until 1945 1547 German soldiers were buried there.
Thanks to the efforts of the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgraberfursorge e. V and the Polish Remembrance Foundation the necropolis was reconstructed in the nineties, and the official opening took place on October 5, 1996. Exhumed soldiers from neighboring cemeteries were transferred to the cemetery. The total number of World War II burials is 12,479. The vast majority of the names of those buried are engraved on a few dozen granite blocks.
