Monument to Karl Linnaeus in Wrocław - a monument commemorating the person of Karl Linnaeus. Its author was Albert Rachner. It was built in 1871 and unveiled on 23 May 1871. The founder of the monument in 1870 was Moritz Wesel. The monument has the form of a realistic and detailed bust set on a pedestal - a high plinth with classical forms. The term portrait monument is used for this type of monument.
The monument is located in the Botanical Garden of Wrocław, in the plant systematics section. It is located where several garden alleys converge. The monument was made of sandstone. It has a form of a bust set on a pedestal of bricks with a height of 2 meters. The pedestal bears the signature: "Linné". At the bottom of the pedestal there is also an inscription about the founder. During World War II, the monument was slightly damaged as a result of warfare. The defects in the bust were filled in by Antonio Comolli. Further degradation of the monument over time necessitated the removal of the original bust to a locked room in the lecture hall in 2001 and the conservation of the work. A new sculpture, created by Prof. Bohdan Chmielewski, was placed on the pedestal.
