Kościół pw. św. Wawrzyńca
Facts and practical information
St. Lawrence Church in Niepruszewo - a late Gothic church in the village of Niepruszewo in the municipality of Buk, Poznań County.
The earlier church in Niepruszewo was wooden. The existing brick church was built in 1580 from the foundation of £êczycki and Poznañ voivode £ukasz III Gorka. The one-nave interior of the church, rebuilt in the years 1725 and 1781, is covered with a flat ceiling. In 1836 the church was extended by neo-gothic burial chapel of St. Anne with an altar in late classicism, founded by the Sierakowski family. A Renaissance iron grille, probably dating from the middle of the seventeenth century, was incorporated into it. On the external buttresses, Gothic niches were left. The walls are divided by pilasters with Rococo capitals. The interior decoration consists of three Rococo altars and a pulpit from the second half of the eighteenth century. The side walls are decorated by a large crucifix from the seventeenth century and a niche in the shape of a Gothic ogive. Polychromy was made in 1949 by Alfons Chojnacki and Teodor Szukła.
A stone epitaph of Rev. Stanislaw Radomski, who was exiled and murdered in the Mauthausen concentration camp, was built into the church walls.
In 2007, the church underwent a major roof renovation. New tiles were laid and the roof framing was restored and preserved. In May 2009, on the initiative of Pastor Roman Janecki, a major renovation of the main altar of St. Lawrence began. The renovated altar was solemnly consecrated during the indulgenced mass on the feast of St. Lawrence on 10 August 2009 by Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki, Metropolitan of Poznań. In May 2009, a major renovation of the top of the church also began and was completed three months later.
The church is surrounded by a cemetery with a gate-belltower of 1782, listed in the register of monuments. Among the old trees there is a tombstone of the Zeroński family, who died in 1823.
