Kościół Apostołów Jana i Piotra, Syców
Facts and practical information
Apostles John and Peter Church in Syców - Evangelical-Augsburg church located in the town of Syców at Queen Jadwiga Square.
The temple was built at the end of the 18th century, in classical style. The whole is finished with a round tower. Construction of the temple began in 1785 with funds from Prince Peter Biron von Curland. The project itself was made by architect and builder Carl Gotthard Langhans - the designer of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, and the builder was Martin Geyer. In November 1789 the church was officially opened. It used to be connected with the Sicovsk castle, now it stands surrounded by the princely park, which was also part of the area's development at that time. Until 1945 the temple was a private chapel of Biron von Curland family - the last local landowners. In 2002 the temple was thoroughly restored thanks to funds from the Polish-German Foundation and private donors. The acoustics of the interior make it not only a place of worship but also a venue for concerts and cultural events.
