Góra Dantyszka, Gdańsk
Facts and practical information
Mount Dantyszka - a forested moraine hill in the Tri-City Landscape Park in the Oliwa Forest complex, in the Oliwa district of Gdańsk. At the eastern foot of "Góra Dantyszka", along Polanki Street, are Dwór II, Dwór III and the Gdańsk branch of the Institute of National Remembrance. The "Mountain" has two peaks. The lower one is closer to Polanki Street, at a distance of about 200 m, while the higher one is at a distance of about 350 m from the street.
Former name comes from the name of the mayor of Danzig, Leopold von Winter. Current name comes from the name of Chelminski bishop, citizen of Gdansk Jan Dantyszek.
The name Gora Dantyszka was officially introduced in 1949, replacing the previous official name of the former Free City of Gdañsk Winterberg. In many publications one can find incorrect location of Gora Dantyszka or assigning this hill the name "Zimnica", which is not in accordance with archival Polish and German maps of the Free City of Gdañsk. The correctly described hill is located at the intersection of Polanki Street and Tetmajera Street.
Nearby are the hills of Head and Wiecha.
