Facts and practical information
Church of the Protection of Our Lady in Młyny - former Greek Catholic church in Młyny, now a branch church of the Roman Catholic parish in Korczowa.
Wooden Greek Catholic Church of the Protection of the Mother of God. The wooden Greek Catholic Church of the Protection of the Mother of God was probably built in the late seventeenth or early eighteenth century. The lintel of one of the portals bears the date 1733 as a fragment of a longer inscription, which may be the date of the church's construction or repair. Another lintel of the same date, coming from the western, main portal of the church, is built secondarily into the wall of the southern sacristy.
The church is bipartite, built on a rectangular plan, with an octagonal drum above the nave, covered with a tent roof with a small cupola. The remaining roofs are gable, with different levels of ridges, covered with sheet metal. Wide eaves based on scratchboards at mid-height of the walls form the sable. A vestry is built on the southern side and a porch is built on the western side.
The naves have walls decorated with figural-ornamental polychrome from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and rich furnishings, including a seventeenth-eighteenth century iconostasis and eighteenth century side altars. Portals and window frames from 1733 are carved in the shape of a donkey's back with woodcarving ornamentation. The south door to the nave and the door to the sacristy have decorative, massive locks made by an eighteenth century blacksmith.
Next to the church there is a wooden bell tower from the mid-nineteenth century with a pole construction and a tent roof.
In 1852-1870 the parish priest of the Greek Catholic parish in Młyny was Michael Werbycki, the author of the music to the song Szcze ne wmerła Ukrajina, the national anthem of Ukraine. He was buried in the local church cemetery. Members of the Lviv academic choir "Banduryst" founded a lyre-shaped stone tombstone, which was placed on Verbytsky's grave. In 2004 a chapel was built, on April 12, 2005 it was consecrated with the participation of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko.
Church is one of the monuments located on the trail of wooden architecture. In years 2005-2006 it was thoroughly renovated.
