Kościół św. Wojciecha
Facts and practical information
St. Adalbert Church is a Roman Catholic parish church belonging to the Tomaszów deanery of the archdiocese of Łódź.
The temple was erected in the years 1674-1676 and founded by Gniezno Archbishop Andrzej Olszowski. The building was consecrated in 1694 by Bishop Jerzy Albrecht Denhoff. In 1892 a chapel, the Ostrowski family mausoleum, designed in neo-Baroque style by the architect Konstanty Wojciechowski, was added to the western side of the temple. It is a brick building, consisting of one nave. Due to the fact that the church was too small for the parish, which had been expanding for years, the cornerstone for a new temple, three times bigger than the old one, was laid in 1987. The new church was built on the east side of the old church. It was designed by architect Aleksei Dvorchak. On April 23, 1993 it was consecrated by Archbishop Władysław Ziolko.
In the old church there is the main altar in Rococo style, created in the late eighteenth century, decorated with sculptures of St. Peter and Paul, in the coping there are the Holy Trinity and angels, and the image of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, two side altars from the late eighteenth century, in Rococo style, decorated with sculptures of the four Evangelists, and the image of St. Ann teaching Mary and the image of the Transfiguration of the Lord from the eighteenth century. Art relics owned by the parish are: pulpit in rococo style, brought from Italy in 1810-1818; stools decorated with coats of arms: Rawicz and Leliwa; a baptismal font with a baroque canopy from the 17th century; paintings: the Image from the Cross painted in the second half of the 18th century; St. Adalbert, St. Lawrence and St. Andrew painted at the end of the 18th century, St. Joseph with Child painted in the early 19th century; a portrait of Bishop Jerzy Albrecht Denhoff painted in 1694 and repainted in 1869; a bell donated by Kasper Danhoff in 1620.
