Upper Silesian Museum in Bytom - a museum that is a local government cultural institution of the Silesian province.
The museum has seven substantive departments: Archaeology, Ethnography, History, Nature and Art, as well as auxiliary departments: Promotion, Education, Publishing and Administration. The Museum also owns a specialized library, which contains over 50,000 volumes. At present, the Museum occupies two buildings: the two-winged main building erected between 1929-1930, which houses exhibition halls, warehouses, workshops and offices, and the building of the former starost's office of the Bytomski Poviat, dating from the years 1899-1902, with interesting eclectic architecture.
In 2017, the Upper Silesian Museum received a gift from the Jewish Community in Katowice of items from the former house of prayer of Bytom Jews. The gift included over 500 valuable books. It constitutes the third largest collection of Hebrew religious books in Poland.
