Muzeum Lalek, Pilzno
Facts and practical information
Pilsen Dolls Museum - a private museum located in Pilsen. It was created on the basis of the Artistic Workshop "Kasia", which deals with designing and sewing costumes for ready-made dolls' bodies.
The Artistic Workshop "Kasia", run by a teacher Zofia G±gala-Bohaczyk, started in 1981. The costumes produced in the workshop were oriented towards reflecting historical and ethnographic patterns. At the same time the owner of the workshop, during her participation in international events and private travels, began to gather a collection, which gave rise to the collection of the museum.
Over time, the studio was transformed into a museum and cultural-educational complex. In 1998 it changed its name to Museum of Puppets. In 2003 it received the status of a museum, still remaining a private business enterprise.
The museum's permanent exhibitions include: What It Takes to Make a Doll, showing the process of making dolls, Grandma's, Mom's, and Mine's Toys - an exhibition of antique dolls in period scenery, How the Seasons Wander the World, or Things About Passing, along with scenes from readings for younger elementary school classes, Polish Dolls - an exhibition of dolls that were made in the museum's manufactories, and Japanese Dolls - a collection of original Japanese dolls.
In addition, the institution offers exhibitions to borrow, the themes of which are e.g. fairy tales by Jean de La Fontaine, Hans Christian Andersen, brothers Grimm, the person of John Paul II, old clothes and figures of Polish politicians.
The following workshops operate at the museum: florist's, millinery, leatherworker's, shoemaker's, embroiderer's, ceramics and artistic carpenter's. There are also organized museum lessons. There is a store at the museum, which sells products of the workshops.
The museum is a year-round facility, open Monday through Friday. There is an admission fee.
In 2000 a branch of the museum was opened in Lipiny. It contains a miniature village inspired by the novel Chłopi by Wladyslaw Reymont and a Fairy Tale Garden.
