Facts and practical information
St. Anthony of Padua Church in Gnojno - Catholic church in Gnojno, built in 1880-1883 as an Orthodox church.
An Orthodox church existed in Gnojno before 1592, and in 1633 it was replaced by a Uniate church founded by Karol Odrowąż. The Uniate parish functioned in Gnojno until the dissolution of the Uniate Diocese of Chelm in 1875, when the local population was forcibly incorporated into the Russian Orthodox Church. In 1880-1883 a new brick church in Byzantine-Russian style was erected with the contributions of local believers. St. Paraskeva church was consecrated on August 6, 1883 by the pastor of the Orthodox parish in Janow Podlaski. In 1910 the object was renovated.
The church remained in Orthodox hands until 1947, when it was taken over by the Catholic Church and adapted for St. Anthony of Padua Church. On the vault of the building a fragment of the old painting decoration with images of saints Mark and Matthew was preserved.
