Facts and practical information
Dormition of the Holy Mother of God Church is an Orthodox parish church in Olesnica. It belongs to Wroclaw deanery of Wroclaw-Shechen diocese of Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church.
Olesnica Orthodox Church is a former church of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. George, built in the Gothic style. The object is located on Luzycka Street.
The temple was created by merging two churches. The older one, belonging to the Augustinian Order and also serving as a parish church, was built around 1307 at St. George's Hospital. The second was built in 1380 by the foundation of Conrad I for Benedictines brought from Bohemia. In 1505, by order of Bishop Jan Turzo, the churches were joined. The building was severely damaged in 1945 and was rebuilt for the needs of the Orthodox parish. The iconostasis comes from Warsaw.
Before 2015, the church underwent a partial renovation and radiant heating was installed. There are plans to renovate the interior of the church.
The church was entered in the register of monuments on December 21, 1955 under the number A/1347/308.
