Kościół pw. św. Apostołów Piotra i Pawła
Facts and practical information
Church of St. Peter and Paul in Rąbin - parish church located in the village of Rąbin. One of nine jubilee churches of Poznań archdiocese.
The late Gothic, single-nave church was built in the 16th century on the site of an earlier Romanesque temple, from the remains of which it drew its building material. Two chapels were added in 1648. In the presbytery there are two wall monuments made of sandstone, which come from 1614 and represent two Jan Rabinskis. The entrance of the church is decorated on both sides with plaques of the seventh and eighth stations of the Way of the Cross. These are replicas, however, because the originals are in the Kopašev chapel.
In 1841 an engraving of the Rąbin temple was placed on the cover of the Leszno-based Przyjaciel Ludu.
In 2010, it was noticed that the walls of the church were severely cracked. It was so serious that the building was in danger of collapse. In order to save the priceless monument, more than 150 holes several meters deep were drilled around the foundations, into which concrete was pumped under pressure. It was estimated that the rescue and thorough renovation of the Rąbin temple - due to the extent of the damage and the cost of the works - could take up to a decade. Fortunately for the parishioners, the exclusion of the temple from religious rites lasted half as long as initially expected. However, for several years, due to the closure of the church and construction works carried out there, holy masses were held in the fire station of the local Voluntary Fire Brigade, to which the altar was then moved.
