Kościół pw. Świętych Apostołów Piotra i Pawła w Kijach
Facts and practical information
Church of Saint Apostles Peter and Paul in Kiy - a Roman Catholic parish church belonging to the Pińczów deanery of the Kielce diocese.
The present church, designed in the early Baroque style, was built of brick in the first half of the seventeenth century. It consists of a four-bay nave and a lower chancel. On the left and right side there were added in the 18th century chapels in the late Baroque style with altars in the Rococo style. The Baroque main altar contains the miracle-working image of Our Lady of Grace with the Infant Jesus, placed in a metal cloth. Probably thanks to the strong Marian devotion in Kiev, the church was not taken over by the Lutherans. There is a crucifix on the rainbow beam.
On the left and right sides of the nave there are altars in Rococo style. On the left side of the altar there are sculptures of patron saints Peter and Paul, on the top there is a picture of Padre Pio. The church is decorated with epitaphs and tombstones from the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, including those of the parish priest Kij ethnographer and archaeologist priest Wladyslaw Siarkowski. Inside there are also paintings of Polish saints painted by the famous eighteenth century painter Kazimierz Molodzinski, among others St. Jacek Odrowaz.
Two new bells with the names "Redeemer of Man" and "Mother of the Redeemer" are placed in the bell tower.
