Rezerwat Skały w Krynkach
Facts and practical information
Rocks in Krynki Nature Reserve - an inanimate nature reserve within the Kamienna Valley Protected Landscape Area in the municipality of Brody, Starachowice County, Świętokrzyskie Province.
Area: 25.26 hectares, Year of establishment: 1997, Establishment document: Ordinance. MOŚZNiL of 25.07.1997; M.P. of 1997 no 56, item 546, WKP evidential number: 065, Nature of the reserve: partial, Object of protection: natural exposures of dolnotriassic sandstones
The reserve includes a fragment of forest on a hill above Brody Lake. It contains sandstone rocks in the form of blocks, thresholds, cliffs, ledges, eaves and rock mushrooms and cascades. The largest rock with the form of a mushroom is 2.5 m high and 5 m wide. The upper surface of the rocks is almost horizontal. The layering and graining of the rocks indicate that they were formed on the river bottom. Within the reserve there is also a gorge with vertical rocks up to 10 m high and about 150 m long. A small stream flows through its bottom.
There are also five caves in the reserve, the largest of which is Saint Barbara's Cave.
The red Millennium Trail from Skarżysko-Kamienna to Kałków passes through the reserve.
In Krynki, not far from the reserve there is another exposure of rocks called the Wall in Krynki. It was formed at a similar time, but in a marine environment. On the opposite side of Brodzkie Lake is the nature monument Rocks in Ruda.
