Rezerwat Tomkowo

Facts and practical information
Tomkowo nature reserve - a forest nature reserve in the municipality of Wąpielsk, in Rypin County, Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province.
It is located in the village of Tomkowo, on State Treasury land administered by the Golub-Dobrzyń Forest Inspectorate. It was established by order of the Minister of Forestry and Wood Industry of 3 May 1965.
Originally it covered an area of 14.98 ha; currently it covers an area of 15.85 ha, consisting of: a manor park with a forest fragment of an area of 12.10 ha and a pine forest of an area of 3.75 ha resulting from afforestation of former farmland. These two complexes are separated from each other by a road and the area of the former manor farm with a restored manor house.
According to the founding act, the reserve was established in order to preserve for scientific and didactic reasons a fragment of the forest with admixture of Polish larch. With time, the aim of the reserve's protection was changed and the maintenance of the mosaic of oak-hornbeam, riparian and alder forests together with the ecological processes occurring in them was considered.
The whole area of the reserve is under active protection. A threat is the spread of American cherry tree in the undergrowth.
