Muzeum Ziemi Grodziskiej
Facts and practical information
Heyder Palace - erected in mid-19th century in Grodzisk Wielkopolski for the then owners of the Grodzisk estate, the Heyders, on the site of the former residence of the Opaliński family, called somewhat exaggeratedly "castle", as Grodzisk Wielkopolski was not the family's main seat. Situated in a park, facing south. Built of brick, plastered with rustication. It has a high basement, one-storey with a low attic floor. It has a two-bay and fourteen-axial layout with two-axial side risalits protruding from the southern façade. In the middle of the façade, there are stairs and a wooden porch with a balustrade. Low roofs covered with tar paper.
During the Wielkopolska Uprising, the palace housed the headquarters of the Western Front. After World War II it was the seat of Grodzisk scouts, and later a kindergarten. Since June 1992 it has been the seat of the Grodzisk Land Museum. In the years 2009/2010 the building was renovated, among others, the windows and roof were replaced, and the facade was renewed.
