Kościół św. św. Bartłomieja i Anny
Facts and practical information
Church of Sts. Bartholomew and Anne in Wabcz - Roman Catholic church in the village of Wabcz, built in the 13th century and in 1706 a chapel of St. Anne was added to it, whose founder was Anna Konojadzka née Wapczynska. The church was built of fieldstones, broken granite and bricks. In 1288 Meinhart from Qwerfurt renewed the location of Wabcz and we know from this document that in 1288 already a brick church stood. The authors of the programme of restoration and reconstruction of the parish church of St Bartholomew in Wabcz put the time of its construction even at the 12th century, suggesting at the same time that it was significantly rebuilt in the 14th century.
The oriented, Gothic temple was situated on a moraine hill. Field stones and granite were used to build the lower parts, while brick was used for the upper parts. It has a separate chancel and a massive, escarped tower with four stories. The tower adjoins the southern wall of the nave body. It is embellished with blends and window openings, topped with a crenellation and a pyramidal, brick helmet. The nave of the church is decorated with three Gothic, richly profiled portals.
The equipment of the interior comes mainly from the Baroque period, its most valuable element is the Gothic statue of the Virgin Mary with Child from around 1380 placed in the main altar.
