Park im. Jana Kilińskiego, Łódź
Facts and practical information
Jana Kilińskiego Park in Lodz - a park in Lodz located in the area of Kilińskiego and Tymienieckiego Streets.
The area on which the park is located was situated below the dyke of the Lamus mill pond. In 1881 Ludwik Grohman started to build his villa here and surrounded it with a garden. The garden is visible on the city plan from 1897, and included two gazebos, a pond and a partially uncovered stream with footbridges over it, flower beds, and side squares. The garden was intersected by a dense network of alleys.
The garden was transformed into a public park in 1950-1953 by the Lodz Horticultural Company. At that time the spatial layout of the park changed, the aim of the changes was to facilitate pedestrian communication between the streets surrounding the park. The main change consisted in creating two wide, perpendicular alleys - the first one connecting 8th March Street with Kilińskiego Street, and the second one being an extension of Targowa Street.
There are about 450 trees and shrubs of 67 different species in the park, 20 of which have been declared natural monuments. The oldest trees are about 130 years old.
