Museum of Icons in Suprasl - a branch of the Podlaskie Museum, established on the grounds of the Orthodox monastery in Suprasl, which has a tradition of over five hundred years. In the collection of Podlaskie Museum there are ca. 1.2 thousand. icons. A large part of this collection is icons seized by customs officers during attempts to smuggle them into Poland from across the eastern border, which after the completion of judicial proceedings were transferred to the museum.
Since February 2007 the first permanent exhibition has been installed in Suprasl - "Icon. Image and Word - between the ephemeral and the eternal", which includes about 300 icons, sacred objects and unique frescoes. The exhibition has a multimedia character, the exhibits are enriched with light, image and sound. All this, as well as decorations in each of the 9 rooms are supposed to put visitors in a contemplative mood and help them understand the role of icons in Orthodoxy. Andrzej Lechowski, director of the Podlaskie Museum in Bialystok, is the author of the artistic concept. The author of the scenario is Krystyna Mazuruk.
