Muzeum im. Oskara Kolberga
Facts and practical information
Oskar Kolberg Museum in Przysucha - presents a collection of materials documenting the work of Oskar Kolberg, a 19th century ethnographer and folklore collector.
In the 1970s the Przysucha Cultural Society began collecting materials related to Oskar Kolberg and ethnographic and historical exhibits from the Przysucha area. The collection was presented at exhibitions in the library and in a historic manor house. In 1979 the collection was transferred to the Museum of Folk Musical Instruments in Szydłowiec, and a museum branch was created in Przysucha.
The museum is housed in the Dembinski Manor House, the first floor of which was used to house the Kolberg biographical museum. The museum was opened in 1990 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Kolberg's death. Since 1992, the museum has been a branch of the Radom Village Museum in Radom.
Kolberg's field records, author's corrections and first editions of "Ludu" volumes, correspondence, field sketches and drawings, and publications of his articles in nineteenth-century periodicals are on permanent display.
The interior design of the museum is stylized to resemble the study and salon of a humanist scholar, with furnishings typical of a wealthy manor house from the second half of the 19th century.
The museum also presents a permanent exhibition on the history of Przysucha in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The holdings were obtained from archives, libraries and museums, as well as from the resources of the Dembinski family, which was associated with Przysucha for three centuries.
The Museum organizes the Oskar Kolberg Award "For Merits to Folk Culture".
