Kościół pw. św. Wita
Facts and practical information
St. Vitus Church - parish church dedicated to St. Vitus in Rogozno, also known as the Rogozinski Fara.
The oldest church in Rogozno is, according to Jozef Nowacki, connected with the 10th century town and later Rogozno castellan's castle. According to tradition, it was founded by Duke Mieszko I and Dobrawa, which would be indicated by its very old name. The present church was erected in the late Gothic style in 1526 from the foundation of the starost of Rogozin, Andrzej Dołęga Kretkowski, and probably also of Queen Bona by Marcin Mor and Klemens from Ostroróg. In turn, an inscription preserved on the outer wall of the presbytery informs that the laying of the cornerstone for the construction of the church took place on July 3, 1526 at eight o'clock. Construction lasted at least a dozen years. In 1668 a sacristy and treasury were added to the church, and in 1862 a porch was erected according to a design by Berlin architect Friedrich August Stueler.
The church is made of brick, partially plastered, has three naves, a pseudo-basilica, with a narrower separate chancel. Main nave and chancel are covered with stellar vault, side naves with cross and ribbed vault. The naves are separated with ogival arcades. The choir is baroque.
The most important monuments located inside the temple:
The late Baroque altar in the south aisle - from the fourth quarter of the 18th century, stucco, with flat decoration and paintings of Christ and St. Stanislaus; the sculpture of Sorrowful Christ - in the porch, late Gothic, folk, from the 16th century; the crucifix on the rainbow beam from the first half of the 17th century; chalices: one silver, late-Renaissance, from the first half of the eighteenth century and the other Baroque, partially gilded, founded by Maciej Zieliński in 1623, numerous objects in neo-Gothic style from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries - stalls, confessionals, Stations of the Cross, organ cabinet, throne and pulpit.
In the years 1983-2004 the local parish priest was Rev. Canon Edmund Lawniczak.
Listed on the Register of Historic Places on December 12, 1932.
The church is located in the immediate vicinity of Rogozinski Lake. At the temple are located: the remains of a wooden bell tower from the 50s with three bells, a funeral chapel from the second half of the nineteenth century, the grotto of the Virgin Mary from the interwar period.
