Mouse Tower, Kruszwica
Facts and practical information
Mysia Wieża - a brick, octagonal tower 32 meters high, located in Kruszwica, on the Rzępowski peninsula of Lake Gopło. Curiosity of its architecture is that in the middle it is round, and that the holes, which are on its wall, are not window openings, but traces of scaffolding. The tower is a remnant of the castle in Kruszwica, built by King Casimir the Great around 1350. At the beginning it was a fortress, which was to protect Kruszwica from the Teutonic Knights. Later, after the fall of that order, it became the seat of the castellany and starosty of Kruszwica. It was destroyed by Swedes in 1657; before that it was occupied by them for two years. The tower survived and since 1895 it has been a tourist attraction of Kruszwica and a viewpoint. From the top of the tower on a clear day you can see Inowrocław, Strzelno, Radziejów.
