Zdrój Główny, Krzeszowice
Facts and practical information
Main Spring or Main Spring - the main source of sulfated healing water in Krzeszowice, with a capacity of 1.61 m³ per hour. The spring is located south of the church, and closer to the church, next to the bridge over the Krzeszówka river, there is a concrete well with an inscription "Zdrój Główny". Around 1778 the spring was cased and covered with a wooden tower on the initiative of the spa physician, Jan Gotfryd Leonhardi, at the request of August Czartoryski.
Later, south of the spring, a sulphur water reservoir was built into which water was pumped to raise its level. From the reservoir, water was distributed to the spa bathrooms through wooden pipes.
In 1857 the well was cased with bricks and the circumference of the well was reduced, which increased the water level and made it no longer pumped into the reservoir in the so-called chapel. In 1858 the monument gained its present appearance and in 1982 it was renovated.
Thanks to regular physicochemical analyses, the mineral water from the Zdrój Główny intake has been characterized as sulfate-calcium-magnesium-sulfide and legally recognized as therapeutic. Currently, the waters from the spring are used by the local Centre for Rehabilitation of the Motor System "Krzeszowice". SP ZOZ.
The object has been entered into the register of immovable monuments of the Regional Office for the Protection of Monuments in Krakow.
