Rezerwat Góra Zborów
Facts and practical information
Mount Zborów Nature Reserve - an inanimate nature reserve in the Krakow-Częstochowa Jura Chain located near the village of Podlesice, established under the Order of the Minister of Forestry and Wood Industry of August 30, 1957, on recognition as a nature reserve. Within the reserve, covering an area of 45.00 ha, there are two hills: Góra Zborów and Kołaczyk, both densely covered with limestone monadnocks with a height of up to 30 meters, on the walls of which there are numerous climbing routes. Karst phenomena have formed caves and karst funnels.
The Zborów Mountain itself - the highest elevation of the former Częstochowa province - is a viewing point.
There are about 210 species of vascular plants in the reserve. The vegetation has a zonal and linear character here. Counting from the foothills, the Zborów mountain is overgrown successively by pine forest, patches of oak-hornbeam forest in places, Sudeten beech with nine-leaved liverwort in the undergrowth, acid beech and xerothermic grasslands. The highest are the rock communities.
The reserve lies within the special habitat protection area Natura 2000 "Ostoja Kroczycka" and the Eagle's Nests Landscape Park.
The project area includes numerous limestone monadnocks, often several dozen meters high with caves, and inland dunes.
The following species grow here: aglow, dogwood, hawthorn, blackthorn and hazel, as well as xerothermic grasslands and rock vegetation. In many places large areas are covered with priority patches of juniper on limestone substrate. On the rocks, xerothermic rock grasslands and crevice fern communities have developed, with rare plant species, such as the blue clove, and the spirea rockrose. There is also the spring system of the Bialka Zdowska and the Grzybówka.
It is a habitat for birds, including the eagle owl, the rock thrush, the pine crossbill and the spruce crossbill, the cinderella and the red-backed shrike.
The reserve is located within the territorial range of the Koniecpol Forestry Commission, but only a small forest section of 0.15 ha lies on land managed by the Forestry Commission - the rest is administered by the Zawiercie Land Lovers Society. The reserve does not have a protection plan; under the protective tasks established in June 2019 for 5 years, its area is subject to active and landscape protection.
