Głaz o. Honoriusza Kowalczyka, Poznań
Facts and practical information
Boulder of Father Honoriusz Kowalczyk - memorial boulder located in the center of Poznań on the outside of the wall of the Dominican Church at 20 Niepodległości Avenue.
The stone commemorates Father Honoriusz Kowalczyk, who during martial law helped internees, supported the academic ministry in the city, and worked on behalf of those persecuted by the communists. He died in unexplained circumstances, in a car accident in April 1983.
The monument, founded on the initiative of Teresa Majchrzak, was made in the form of an erratic boulder with bronze letters on the front. In addition to the name and dates on the boulder there are two sentences: A Good Shepherd Gives His Life for the Sheep and If People Fall Silent, Stones Will Cry Out. The designer of the monument was Jozef Petruk and the contractor was the Grobelny Brothers Stone Works. The unveiling took place on October 22, 2000 and was initiated by the Honoriusz Kowalczyk Foundation, with Prof. Janusz Ziolkowski heading the organizing committee. Originally the unveiling was planned for the 39th anniversary of the priestly ordination on June 17, 2000, but this interfered with the unveiling of the monument in Wylatow.
