Kościół pw. Świętego Floriana
Facts and practical information
The post-Cistercian church of St. Florian in Koprzywnica, original name from the time of the church's consecration: St. Florian and the Blessed Virgin Mary - a Roman Catholic temple built together with the monastery buildings of the Cistercian abbey. The monastery was founded by the Sandomierz voivode Mikolaj Bogoria from Skotniki, who brought the Cistercians in 1183 from Morimond. The buildings were built in the Romanesque style between 1207 and 1220. Over the centuries the church was repaired and renovated, which makes the interior dominated by the Baroque. In 1819 the Tsarist authorities dissolved the monastery. By a decision of the Sandomierz bishop in 1821 a parish was established there.
A former Cistercian abbey functioning between 1183 and 1819, a direct branch of the French Morimond. It was one of the easternmost Cistercian abbeys in Europe.
On the monastery grounds, not far from the St. Florian's church building, were the temples: Holy Spirit and St. Leonard.
On May 4, 1995, the relics of the parish patron were brought to the church.
Nowadays, the post-Cistercian church of St. Florian serves as a parish church. Of the monastery buildings only the eastern wing has survived. The rooms of the monastery are currently unused with the exception of the well-preserved chapter house, where a lapidarium has been set up.
