Zagroda Pokazowa Żubrów, Wolin National Park

Bison Show Enclosure in Wolin National Park - a bison enclosure in Kamień County, West Pomeranian Province, located in the middle of the forest. The enclosure is 28 ha and was established in 1976.

The beginnings of breeding go back to 1976, when four bison were imported from the Borecka and Białowieża Primeval Forests. Currently, there are six to twelve specimens in the enclosure, and 1-2 calves are born every year. From time to time, bulls from the outside are introduced into the herd in order to prevent too close breeding. Immediately after birth, calves are given names, entered into the European bison pedigree book. Names of bison born in Poland begin with the syllable "Po-".

Bred healthy specimens are transferred to other herds. Lowland European bison do not live in the wild, as the food resources in the local forests are too poor for this purpose. Quarantine area of 0,5 ha is intended for newly imported specimens and bison with suspected diseases.

In the part open to tourists along the fence there are observation platforms and boards about individual species. The separate enclosure is inhabited by roe deer and wild boars, which are sick or orphaned animals. When they regain their vitality, they are released into the wild. In special aviaries there are birds of prey: white-tailed eagles and eagle owls, including Jurand, which hatched blind and will remain in the enclosure forever.

Animals at the Wolin homestead are provided with constant care, including veterinary care.

The attendance of visitors to the European bison enclosure is over 160 thousand tourists a year.

Access by three popular tourist routes: following the green trail signs - 2 km, following the black trail signs through the seaside avenue of stars and Kawcza Góra - 4.7 km, and for motorists - the same black trail, from the Kwasowo parking lot - 1.7 km.
