The Pelicano Fountain, is located in the center of the Praça do Município in Braga.
The Mannerist-Joanese style fountain is by sculptor Marceliano de Araújo.
Originally it was located in the gardens of the Paço Arquiepiscopal Bracarense. Later it was in Parque da Ponte for several years, until it was moved to its current location during the time of Viriato Nunes' presidency of the City Council on November 30, 1967.
The fountain is composed of five bowls arranged in the center by a bowl higher than the others and flanked by four smaller bowls, which are topped by a sculptural group and inserted into a quadrilobed tank, which rests on a circular base forming two steps, these last two elements were built in the twentieth century and are the work of the municipal architect Cortez Marques.
The symbolism is religious, linked to the Legend of the Pelican.
On October 7, 2021 it was classified as a monument of municipal interest, according to a notice published in the Official Gazette.
