Jardim Amália Rodrigues, Lisbon
Facts and practical information
Designed by Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles the Amália Rodrigues Garden is a garden in Lisbon, so named in 2000 to honor the fado singer Amália Rodrigues. Inaugurated in 1996, it extends north from Parque Eduardo VII, in a central area and one of the highest in the city. Its relief and design give it great diversity of environments.
It has a large amphitheater facing the Avenida da Liberdade valley and a circular pond, next to which is a bar with an esplanade. At the highest point of the garden there is also a restaurant.
In the garden was placed a statue of the Colombian sculptor Fernando Botero, chosen by locals and tourists during an exhibition of his work in Terreiro do Paço.
