Palácio de São Marcos

Facts and practical information
The Monastery of São Marcos de Coimbra, now São Marcos Palace, was a male convent belonging to the Order and Congregation of São Jerónimo. It is located near Tentúgal, in the farm of São Marcos, parish of São Silvestre do Campo, municipality and diocese of Coimbra.
Created in the 15th century, the monastery was extinct in the 19th century, passing into private hands. The group of buildings underwent extensive renovation and expansion between the 15th and 20th centuries. Adapted for some time, from 1954 to 1976, as the palatial residence of the Dukes of Bragança, S. Marcos is currently under the guardianship of the University of Coimbra. Due to its exceptional patrimonial richness, the church is classified as a National Monument.
