Quesito

Quesitos are a cherished treat from Puerto Rico, celebrated for their delectable cream cheese filling and flaky pastry. The filling typically blends cream cheese, vanilla, eggs, and sugar into a mouth-watering mixture. Occasionally, this delightful filling is enhanced with additions like red bean paste, grated coconut, guava jam, spiced papaya jam (dulce de lechosa), or other fruit preserves.

This creamy filling is encased in a dough similar to puff pastry, brushed with a sweet caramelized syrup, and then baked to perfection. These irresistible pastries can be found in bakeries and sweet shops, known as "bomboneras" throughout Puerto Rico.
