The monument to Boris Pasternak is one of Perm's landmarks. Opened on June 12, 2009, on City Day, it was the first monument to the poet and writer in Russia.
The monument is installed in the square near the Opera Theater. Sculptor of the bust Elena Munts, architect of the pedestal Peter Popov-Serebryakov.
The monument depicts Pasternak as a young man with a scarf waving in the wind. The poet was in Perm several times in the spring of 1916. At that time he lived in the village of Vsevolodo-Vilva, where he was invited by the famous biochemist Boris Zbarsky. Pasternak helped the scientist in business, and in his spare time he traveled around the countryside. His stay in the Urals gave a new impetus to Pasternak's poetic creativity, and he gave up thoughts of a career as a pianist.
It is believed that it was Perm that served as the prototype of the city of Yuryatin, later depicted by Pasternak in his novel Doctor Zhivago.
