Facts and practical information
Fort No. 2a Barnekow is one of Königsberg's smaller forts, named after Albert von Barnekow, a Prussian general who participated in the war with France. A distinctive feature of the fort is the color of the bricks used in the decoration. It is the only fort not finished in red brick.
On the concrete pads around the moat were barrack-type army warehouses.
Until 1996, Fort 2a was an artillery ammunition depot.
The fort is free for inspection.
