Church of the Resurrection, Ostashkov
Facts and practical information
Church of the Resurrection is an Orthodox church in Ostashkov.
The church and its freestanding hipped-roof bell tower were built in 1677-1689. They are the oldest surviving buildings in the city. The original appearance of the church has been distorted by numerous later alterations.
The temple is a stone five-domed five-altar church. There is an altar apse to the east, a refectory covered with a closed vault to the west and aisles to the south and north. The church is decorated: on the drums there are the arcature-columnar belts and on the facades - platbands made of figured brick.
For a long time it belonged by virtue of a gift from Prince Joseph of Volotsk to the Joseph-Volotsk Monastery.
Later, by 1697, the Trinity Cathedral was erected next to the Resurrection Church.
