Malyj Fistinskij, Western Caucasus
Facts and practical information
The Maly Fishtinsky Glacier is one of the four glaciers of the Fisht-Pshekho-Su mountain group, located on the southeastern slope of Fisht Mountain. One of the lowest glaciers in the Caucasus. It belongs to the gorge type, as it is located in a deep gorge and has an abnormally low height of up to 1980 m. The glacier is oriented to the north-east in the direction of the Belaya river valley. In the north, it is in contact with the main massif of the Fisht, in the south - with the spur.
Every year the glacier decreases in size. - С. 7-11. In its middle part there are thaws, which probably divide the glacier into two parts. A rock several hundred meters high rises above the glacier, from which a waterfall descends into the glacier's bergschrund.
Under the tongue of the glacier there is a low ice cave from which a powerful stream of cold air emerges. This air is either sucked in from the bergschrund or comes out of the caves where the water that has melted off the glacier disappears.
The glacier is proposed to develop as an object of tourist infrastructure. - С. 71-81. There is a project of the Lago-Naki eco-trail.
