Boris Petrovich Kalachev was the founder and leader of the underground anti-fascist organization that operated in the town of Porkhov, Pskov region from July 1941 to July 1943.
Information about the time of his birth varies. Various sources indicate three dates: 1883, 1886, 1890. He graduated from the Timiryazev Agricultural Academy. For three years he studied in Germany. Since 1927 he worked in Porkhov. He performed the duties of the agronomist-gardener and was a great enthusiast of his work. Due to his efforts during the pre-war years the area of collective and state farm gardens in Porkhov district increased 9 times. He participated in the All-Union agricultural exhibitions in 1939 and 1940. He knew three foreign languages, including German very well. With his wife Anastasia Aleksandrovna he lived in a wooden house inside the Porkhov fortress.
