Por-Bazhyn

Por-Bazhyn, nestled in the heart of Tuva, Russia, is an enigmatic archaeological site that has intrigued scholars and visitors alike. This ancient structure, located on a small island in the middle of Tere-Khol Lake, dates back to the 8th century. The remnants of this complex, often referred to as a fortress, cover an area of approximately 1 hectare.

The origins and purpose of Por-Bazhyn remain shrouded in mystery, with various theories suggesting it was a palace, monastery, or even an astronomical observatory. Its unique layout, featuring walls and an intricate system of inner courtyards and buildings, points to the influence of both Chinese and Uighur architectural styles.

Excavations at Por-Bazhyn have unearthed a wealth of artifacts, including wall paintings, clay tablets, and fragments of silk, which provide a glimpse into the life and culture of its inhabitants.
