Avala Tower, Belgrade

The Avala Tower is a prominent landmark and a symbol of pride for the city of Belgrade, Serbia. This telecommunications tower, reaching a height of 204.5 meters, majestically stands atop Avala Mountain, providing a panoramic view of the capital and its surroundings. Reconstructed in 2010, the tower has a significant historical and cultural importance for the Serbian people.

Originally built in 1965, the Avala Tower was a masterpiece of modern architecture and engineering, symbolizing the nation's resilience and advancement in the aftermath of World War II. However, the tower met a tragic fate in 1999 when it was destroyed during NATO's bombing of Yugoslavia. Its reconstruction, which faithfully replicated the original design, was completed in 2010, signifying the restoration of a national symbol and a tribute to the past.

The new Avala Tower features an observation deck, a restaurant, and a souvenir shop. The observation deck, located at a height of 122 meters, offers visitors a chance to gaze across the lush landscapes of Avala and the bustling cityscape of Belgrade. The design of the tower is characterized by its unique tripod base and slender, futuristic structure that pierces the sky.

Open to visitors throughout the year, the tower provides an educational as well as a recreational experience. The journey to the observation deck is made via an elevator, offering a swift ascent to the breathtaking views. At the base of the tower is a memorial park dedicated to the unknown heroes from World War I, adding a poignant historical context to the visit.
