When Is the Best Time To Visit Serbia?

The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Serbia depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.

Climate of Serbia

Serbia is under the influence of continental air masses, and we can distinguish several climatic zones within its territory.

In the northern and central parts (including Belgrade), a temperate climate prevails, with cold winters and hot and rainy summers. The air temperature in summer oscillates between 27°C and 30°C, but there are often hot days with temperatures reaching above 35°C. In winter, thermometers drop to several degrees above 0°C and frosts occur. A common phenomenon in autumn and winter is the southeast wind "kosawa", which occurs periodically and lasts from 3 to 7 days. Rainfall is not very abundant (about 600 mm - 700 mm per year) and somewhat more intense in the summer months.

Areas located in the south of the country have a subtropical Mediterranean climate characterized by hot and dry summers and quite cold and sometimes snowy winters. The summer months are usually rainless and hot, with temperatures oscillating between 27°C and 35°C. In winter, on the other hand, thermometers indicate -2°C to 5°C, and it often rains and snows. Annual precipitation ranges from 600 mm - 700 mm.

There is a climatic stacked climate in the Dinaric mountains, where temperatures gradually decrease with increasing altitude. Throughout the year it is much colder than in the rest of the country, it rains frequently, and in winter it also snows. In the higher parts of the mountains, the poles of the mercury indicate about -10°C, and the lingering snow cover persists from November to May. Precipitation is quite abundant - more than 1,000 mm per year.
