Štrkovecké jazero, Bratislava

Štrkovecké Jazero - a lake and a swimming pool located in the capital of Slovakia, Bratislava, in the eastern district of Ružinov, between Ružinska and Drieňova streets.

Until the 1950s, the Mill branch of the Little Danube flowing through Vrakuňa ran in this area. It was covered during the construction of nearby housing estates. In the place of the lake, gravel mining for construction purposes began. The lake is the important in the central part, because there was a gravel excavator. It has a depth of 2.5 to 8 meters. The area is 5.5 ha and the circumference is 865 meters. It lies at an altitude of 138 m a.s.l.

It is located on an important route of water bird migration, which runs along the Danube, and therefore is a stop for birds looking for a suitable place to rest and feed during migration. For the inhabitants of Bratislava, the lake is a popular recreation and sports place. An earth treadmill was built around. At the beginning of the 1990s, it had heavily polluted water, unpaid edges and its liquidation was considered, which ultimately did not happen. Revitalization activities were carried out from the late 1990s. New vegetation was planted and the islands for birds were built.

At the lake there is one of the largest playgrounds in Bratislava Radosť Games Complex. In winter it is a popular place to skate. Hotel Junior stands directly above the water.

Swans, a crossbow duck, a two -wing wagon, a black manhmin and a federation. The lake is available fishing. There are carp, catfish, Antary, and pike, eels and amura less often.
