When Is the Best Time To Visit Slovenia?
The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Slovenia depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.
Tourist Season in Slovenia
Slovenia is best visited during the summer between June and August. The peak tourist season is underway then, and warm and sunny days encourage all forms of recreation: beachcombing, sightseeing and trekking.
Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October), is also a good time to travel to Slovenia. Admittedly, the weather is no longer as good as in summer, it rains a bit more often and is cooler, but you can still count on a large dose of sunshine. You can organize round trips combined with sightseeing and hiking on mountain trails.
The winter months (November through March) are the coldest of the year and are outside the main tourist season. You have to expect not only a drop in temperatures, but also more cloud cover, strong winds and frequent rainfall and, in some regions, snow. The capricious weather can significantly hamper your visit. On average, the ski season lasts from mid-December to the end of March in the higher parts of the mountains.

Spring months, the air temperature oscillates between 17°C and 25°C. There may be some fleeting rainfall, but it is not so frequent and intense as to significantly hamper a visit. This is a good time for those who want to skip the worst of the heat and like an intimate rest. There are no crowds of tourists, holiday resorts are slowly waking up to life, and spring nature encourages hiking and walking. Warm, but not hot, days create comfortable conditions for sightseeing and road trips around the country. You can then visit towns and cities where you can enjoy thermal baths (including Ptuj Thermal Baths, Olimia Thermal Baths, Moravske Toplice Thermal Baths, Čatež Thermal Baths).
You can start beachcombing on the Adriatic at the end of May, when the water temperature reaches 20°C. Due to the high water level in the rivers, rafting is also recommended at the end of May.

In September, the days are still long, temperatures are relatively high, and the crowds of tourists thin out a bit. The month is still good for beachcombing and taking a dip in the sea. The coast is warm, but no longer hot, around 23°C - 28°C. The aura is also favorable for mountain hiking and sightseeing, and nature taking on autumn colors makes walks more pleasant.
From October onward, it gradually gets cooler, the mercury bar drops to about 20°C, and there may be more rain and cloud cover. You can then relax at resorts with thermal and curative waters, some of which are open all year round (including the Čatež Thermal Baths).

The winter months are outside the main tourist season. The weather deteriorates noticeably, it gets cold, it rains often, it is windy. Average daytime temperatures oscillate around -5°C - 7°C. The warmest weather is near the coast, where frosts are extremely rare, but you have to reckon with rainfall and increased wind. In the central and eastern parts of the country winters are moderate, the coldest is in mountainous areas, where the temperature is determined by altitude. The higher you go, the colder it gets, with the mercury pole falling to -10°C here and snow often falling. Snow cover lasts on average from mid-December to the end of March, which creates ideal conditions for winter sports enthusiasts. Slovenia has a well-prepared ski infrastructure along with accommodation and catering facilities. The most popular ski resorts Krajnika Gora, Areh, Rogla, Kope and Planica with its ski jump complex are besieged by ski enthusiasts.
In March it gradually gets warmer, except in mountainous areas where it is usually much cooler, with temperatures in the country rising to around 12°C. The weather becomes capricious, sometimes sunny and warm other times rainy and stormy.
