The parish church of San José is located in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Méndez Núñez Street next to the Rambla de Santa Cruz, in the center of the city. The church is surrounded by residential buildings on its sides and at the back. Its neoclassical façade with its two bell towers stands out.
It is one of the most beautiful and most important temples of the city, different religious images are venerated in the church such as; San José de Nazaret, the Cristo de Medinaceli, the oil painting of the Virgen de la Paloma, the Señor de la Columna, the Virgen de Fátima and the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, among others. There are also different orthodox style icons in the church.
The parish has an important bibliographical heritage. You can find several volumes from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, published in Latin, as well as several missals in the same language, since it was the official language for liturgical celebrations until the Second Vatican Council in 1967. Most of the copies that have made up this small bookshop have remained in the parish as a legacy left by the different priests who have passed through its facilities over the years.
At the back of the church, in the Plaza del Arquitecto Enrique Marrero Regalado is the monument or statue of San Juan Bosco, founder of the Salesian Order. This statue was placed in 2016 on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the presence of the Salesians in the Hogar Escuela of the city.
