The New Icaria park is located in the San Martín district of Barcelona. It was created in 1992 with a project by Martorell-Bohigas-Mackay. The name comes from the Greek island of Icaria, which Étienne Cabet recalled in his work Journey through Icaria, giving rise to the utopian project of the Icarians. Between 1846 and 1847 some of his followers in Barcelona settled in this area of the Pueblo Nuevo neighbourhood, which they christened New Icaria.
