Perched on a rocky outcrop above the confluence of the rivers Eresma and Clamores, the Alcázar de Segovia stands as a testament to medieval military architecture and the rich history of Spain. This imposing fortress, which has origins dating back to the early 12th century, has served as a royal palace, a state prison, and a military academy throughout its storied past. Today, it is one of the most distinctive castle-palaces in Spain, recognized by its unique ship-like shape and now functions as a museum that attracts tourists from around the globe.

The Alcázar's fairy-tale appearance, with its turrets and spires, is said to have inspired Walt Disney's Cinderella Castle, and it is not difficult to see why. Inside, the museum showcases beautifully decorated rooms, such as the ornate Throne Room, the Mudejar-style Hall of Kings with a frieze depicting Spanish monarchs, and the intimate Hall of the Galley. Visitors can also climb the Tower of John II for panoramic views of Segovia and the surrounding countryside.

The Alcázar de Segovia has undergone numerous renovations and reconstructions, particularly after a fire in 1862 that caused extensive damage.
