Santa Maria del Mar, Barcelona

Santa Maria del Mar is an exquisite example of Catalan Gothic architecture nestled in the heart of Barcelona's Ribera district. Built between 1329 and 1383, the church stands as a testament to the city's maritime past and the wealth of its merchant class during the medieval period. Its construction was a community effort, with the bastaixos, or port carriers, famously contributing to the transport of huge stones from the Montjuïc quarry to the church site.

The church's design is characterized by its purity and unity of style, rare for large medieval buildings.
