The Campomanes monument, located on Campomanes Street in the city of Oviedo, Principality of Asturias, Spain, is one of more than a hundred urban sculptures that adorn the streets of the aforementioned Spanish city.
The urban landscape of this city is adorned by sculptural works, generally commemorative monuments dedicated to important people at first, and more purely artistic since the late twentieth century.
The sculpture, made of an alloy of bronze and silicon patinated in oxide, is the work of Amado González Hevia, "Favila", and is dated 2002. With a height of two meters and thirty centimeters and a weight of three thousand and fifty kilos, this work, which had a cost of 90000 euros, was erected to commemorate the bicentenary of the death of Pedro Rodríguez de Campomanes, first Count of Campomanes. This Asturian politician, jurist, historian and economist had a great influence during his lifetime, holding important public posts; he was also, together with the Count of Aranda, the Count of Floridablanca and Jovellanos, a fundamental and key figure in carrying out the essential reforms of the Spanish economy from its foundations.
The work shows the count at work, seated on the floor, leaning over a desk. It is placed on a concrete base with a plaque with the following inscription: In addition, the work has the author's signature and the date, under his pseudonym "Favila", on one of the folds of the character's cloak.
