The castle of Monzón de Campos, located in that town in the province of Palencia, is located on the top of a hill from which the surrounding fields are dominated, being one of the two that the town once had, since the other, which was located on a hill near the river, was gradually being washed away by the currents of the Carrión.
Political center of the County of Monzón, which in its beginnings included great part of the east of the province of Palencia, in the north the possessions of the county arrived until the lands of La Ojeda and Mudá arriving practically until the current province of Cantabria. The county of Monzón was located between the counties of Saldaña and Castile.
From this castle the political and commercial activity of all the lands between the river Pisuerga until its confluence with the river Arlanza was controlled, making border with the County of Castile, being in the Mountain Palentina the regions of Brañosera, Barruelo de Santullán and Aguilar de Campoo in Castilian side, and the regions of Mudá, Cervera de Pisuerga and Salinas de Pisuerga in the county of Monzón.
Further down the Arlanza river, Cerrato palentino was included in Monzón, excluding the area around Palenzuela. In the province of Valladolid the region of Campo de Peñafiel was integrated in Monzón, and in the province of Segovia the area around Sacramenia was left as the end of the county.
