Castell de Besora
Facts and practical information
Besora Castle is a castle that crowns a hill, located to the west of the village of Santa Maria de Besora, and at an altitude of 1,023 meters, in the region of Osona, of which today only the ruins remain. It was the historical centre of the territory of the current municipalities of Santa Maria de Besora, San Quirico de Besora and Montesquiu.
The historian Carreras y Candi published in 1892 a series of data on the castle of Besora and its physical decay, which has worsened with the passage of time until there are only remains of the castle walls and the Romanesque church that still retains the apse and some Lombard strips in the side body.
