Esperanza Caminando, Oviedo
Facts and practical information
The urban sculpture known as Esperanza caminando, located in front of the Campoamor Theatre, in the city of Oviedo, Asturias, Spain, is one of more than a hundred that adorn the streets of the aforementioned Spanish city.
The urban landscape of this city is adorned by sculptural works, generally commemorative monuments dedicated to important people at first, and more purely artistic since the late twentieth century.
The sculpture, made in bronze, is the work of Julio López Hernández, and its unveiling dates back to 1998. It represents a student reading in a distracted way a book that she holds next to a notebook and a folder, with great calm, symbolizing, perhaps, the university tradition of the city.
The statue rests on a stone pedestal on which can be seen a metal plaque that reads: ESPERANZA CAMINANDO DE JULIO LÓPEZ HERNÁNDEZ OCTOBER-1998.
